Will we ever harness the weather?

As I'm sure many of you have done before, I've often wondered if someday it'll be possible to somehow capture and retain weather and temperature. Now hold on, hear me out. 500 years ago if anyone suggested the idea of an airplane they'd think the same thing you are.

I don't have any idea how it could be done, but to have large quantities of +40C heat in the wintertime to disperse without a furnace or -40C cold in the summertime to expell into your house without using an air conditioner.

Concentrated containers of "weather", could be bought and sold like any other commodity, shipped over seas. Antarctica would have a commodity worth something, as would poor hot continents like Africa. Homes around the entire Earth would be 20C all the time! :)

I guess Star Trek never talks about such a brilliant invention, so it'll probably never happen.

They had weather control in Star Trek.

if we can completely harness solar energy then we can probably achieve the same

Actually, I think that is outlawed by international treaty.

Nope.

Think about it. The weather is a woman.... Mother Earth. Just when you think you've got it all figured out, she'll throw you a loop that you never saw coming.

:p

HA

There's one thing I hadn't thought of, and that is if these containers were to burst or leak. A giant spill by a cargo ship in the middle of the ocean, or worse yet near land, of concentrated "cold" or "hot" could conceivably damage that areas climate for quite a well.

I guess we'd have to capture and immediately store everything outside the atmosphere.

You can't control weather because for the most part it is affected by the sun

Not far from the truth; with the most abundant renewable resource known to man, an unlimited energy source such as the sun (but will burn out in a few billion years) can lead to anything since energy is what continues to drive our technology.
