Will we be warned before win7 is deactivated?

Will microsoft give us a heads up prior to deactivating the windows 7 beta? I assume they will. Also in the past do they have a history of offering an upgrade option when the new OS is released so that we won't be forced to do a new install?

I'm not sure what you mean by a 'head up'. Microsoft doesnt deactivate Windows remotely, it was set to expire when you first installed it and documented as such. You can run slmgr -dlv to see when your set to expire.

Alright thanks. I don't remember seeing any expiration notice.

You'll get warnings and a Watermark when the time has come. After a bit, it'll switch to reduced functionality.

To solve the problem - Get a properly licenced production version and install it.

Regarding being able to "Upgrade" from a pre-production version of 7 to the real thing - I've heard different stories from different people. Therefore, I'd strongly recommend preparing for a full, clean install come summertime.

I believe that the windows vista prerelease allowed you to upgrade, but only to vista ultimate. (afterall, you have windows 7 ultimate installed and can't downgrade versions of windows)

I just read today, in a couple posts at a popular private bittorrent site, that ver. 7077 doesn't expire until June 1, 2010. As we all know, ver. 7068 expires March 1, 2010.

If you don't want your W7 to turn off in July, '09 then upgrade to a newer version.
