Will microsoft give us a heads up prior to deactivating the windows 7 beta? I assume they will. Also in the past do they have a history of offering an upgrade option when the new OS is released so that we won't be forced to do a new install?

I'm not sure what you mean by a 'head up'. Microsoft doesnt deactivate Windows remotely, it was set to expire when you first installed it and documented as such. You can run slmgr -dlv to see when your set to expire.

You'll get warnings and a Watermark when the time has come. After a bit, it'll switch to reduced functionality.
To solve the problem - Get a properly licenced production version and install it.
Regarding being able to "Upgrade" from a pre-production version of 7 to the real thing - I've heard different stories from different people. Therefore, I'd strongly recommend preparing for a full, clean install come summertime.
