Or should I take this back to Officemax and wait for a deal on an 8MB version ? I plan to transfer my digital video over to HD at as good a resolution as I need to to burn DVD's (as soon as I select a DVD burner) and hopefully the quality woill be good enough to not have to keep the Tapes ! I posted a separate question on what resolution that should be in the Video forum. I don't want the HD to cause frame loss (if that can cause it) or be too slow to capture a 30 minute tape.

the short story is any current model 7200RPM drive with 2MB cache will be sufficient for what you need to do.

You are totally fine.... Even a modern 4200 rpm 2MB cache drive (laptop ones) can sustain the 3.6 MB/sec that DV requires.....

The quality will be the same, that's what's nice about DV. Digital to your computer, digital from there to your DVD. I just made my first DVD from a dv tape yesterday, and it came out flawless. Be ready for some long processing times though. I am using the cheap movie maker software that came with my Dell 4550, but it still took nearly an hour to process 1 hour of film. Burn time was only 15 minutes (4x dvd+). BTW, I have a 2.66Ghz with 512MB ram for comparison.

What resolution do you capture at to then burn to DVD ? 640x480 or 320x something (I do not remember the numbers) ?

I have a Dell 4550 w. 2.53 Ghz and 512 MB Ram.
