Will Vista service packs be slipstreamable?

One of the wonderful benifits of W2K's and XP's installer design, is that it allows future service packs to be "slipstreamed" - added to the core OS files, such that during an install, both the OS and the service pack get installed together, instead of having to install the SP in a seperate step. This makes it easy to create an up-to-date CD copy of the installer, with the freshest SP installed too.

The question is, did MS apply the same forethought to the Vista DVD install routines? Will we be able to build a slipstreamed install DVD for Vista SP1?

Would appreciate any non-official responses from MS personnel on this issue too.

Paul Thurott has some quotes from MS people on this: http://www.winsupersite.com/sh...invista_sp1_inside.asp

Essentially (according to the article, I don't know how accurate any of this is), slipstreaming was part of the design goals for Vista, and was to be even easier than XP. Apparently, this is taking more work than expected, so it is planned for SP2. But the article states you will still be able to slipstream using the old XP method.

There will be a slipstreamed version of SP1 released by MS, but I believe it is for volume license customers only. Although I would think retail copies would eventually switch to a slipstreamed version, but I don't know for sure.

Do you think then, that I could order media from MS that had SP1 slipstreamed onto it, if I can't do it myself? I don't plan on installing Vista before SP1.
