Will Valve Produce More Portal Maps?

Anyone know if Valve plans to produce more maps for Portal? I hope they do.

When I started playing Portal I didn't pay much attention and when I started a new game there appeared to be TONS of chapters for the game. I thought that the rooms 1 - 19 were just the first chapter of the game and there was much more after that. I realized this wasn't the case when I played the first 8 or 10 rooms, saved my game, and resumed the game later. It was at this point that I saw there were actually only 19 rooms to the entire game and not a pile of chapters as I previously thought. Needless to say I was bummed.

Portal is one of the most fun games I've played in a long time and I hope that either Valve puts out more maps or that the modding community really embraces this game because I love it.

Just curious, but have you actually finished the game? Judging by some of the things you said, I think not (I'm being vague to avoid any spoilers of course).

well, I played all 19 rooms and killed glados so yeah I assume that's it right? It still only took about 2 hours at most to do it all. When I first started playing I thought that rooms 1/19, 2/19, etc were all just training rooms before getting into the actual game. Turns out 19 rooms were the whole game.

Well then, I guess you did finish it. There were more than 19 rooms. You had the 19 "training missions" and then all the extra levels after that. But I do agree with you, I can't wait for more maps from either Valve or the community.

If the community does make more, I probably will buy Portal. I really want to buy it, but I need more levels.

I think it'd be really fun to incorporate multiplayer into Portal. Either by missions involving multiple people, or something like CTF with everyone armed with a portal gun. It'd make for some crazy fun moments.

Since the portal levels are pretty small - I wouldn't be surprised to see some home-brewed levels soon. I'm going to see if I can convert a few of my quake 1/quake 2 or descent levels for Portal...

I was really hoping to see a twist on the escher styling [ie: Escher's "Relativity" drawing].

Seeing an Escher rendition on Portal would simply be awesome. Hell, seeing a 3d Escher 'game' or any sort would be pretty cool on principle.

i did too ... and the card was on sale also :)

anyway, best of what i understand - Valve will not be making further maps for Portal ... they are releasing the toolset for the community to mod.

So you want Escher? ... i think we will see it!
-Some of the Oblivion modders came up with some crazy and damn near impossible levels for even Level 80 players ... the Valve community is no less talented.

There are some 3rd party maps on this site...

You need to register to be able to download. I played through lostchmb_a_00, and it was pretty good.

The pl_cube map is tough, so much I went to YouTube and watched someone do it. :D

I'll be amazed if we don't see more content in the Portal line, either a sequel or an expansion of some sort. It's a 'huge success' :p

It'd make a nice bundle with HL2:E3 :D

Totally agree. Portal is my game of the year. I laughed, I cried, I ate some cake...I mean what more can you ask for?

You will be baked, and then there will be cake (Portal 18).

When I heard that I was like "wtf? did she say baked?...maybe I just heard it wrong."

Yes, she most certainly did.

Has anyone tried the advanced maps? Are they much more difficult?

there were 19 missions that were the game. they were not training missions

then there are 12 advanced levels, which are mostly just modified versions of the original levels. There are also 6 challenge levels, which are also modified versions of the original levels.

I can't figure how to get the fourth "ball" when battling glados. It's the one being held midair by some tracking beam. Any hints?

spoiler alerts people, spoiler alerts!

meh, I actually don't care. I'll get around to playing it, but I don't freak if I find out part of a game's story. I just prefer to go into them without any knowledge.
