I have 6800 gt, 3500+ athlon 64, and I'm wondering if I will be able to download some software (not sure what) and then run the video to my 50 inch plasma tv and get better dvd playback than my crappy toshiba sd 3960 dvd player. Just guess if it will work, if everyone says no then I won't haul the thing in here, but I'd like to know before i do hours of research, etc. Thanks

Yes it will look better. Your PC outputs progressive scan video to your monitor or HDTV. Buy nvidia's Purevideo decoder for DVD playback. You can also use your pc to upscale the video to 1080i using FFDSHOW. Not sure if nvidia's decoder works with FFDSHOW, though.

Just curious, will you basically connect your 50" plasma TV as your monitor? Like use the DVI on your vid card?

I'm not very knowledgable with current tv stuff like Hi def, etc, and when I look at newer video cards, a lot of them say they can output HDTV. Is that done by just hooking up a HDTV via the DVI input?

nVidia's DVD decoder would be my preference, as well. I just use it with Windows Media Player, but, then, I'm only watching DVDs on my LCD monitor.

Almost any DVD decoder along with ffdshow will look better than a stand alone DVD player. I'm using the PowerDVD codecs, cause I'm cheap.
