Will UPS really come pick up the damaged item?

okay, I received a case in the mail and it was damaged... I called the company and they said it probably happened during shipping, so to put it off in a dark corner for a few months until UPS comes to pick it up (obviously they are going to charge it to UPS)... so my question is, will UPS really come to pick it up and make sure it is damaged? I live in a dorm, so the address they ship to really isn't the address I live at, so it wont be as simple as just going to my PO box and picking it up... that and I'll be leaving for New Hampshire to work for Compaq, so how will they ever track this down?

And if they won't, Im going to hack it apart and build a super cooling case

I have a friend whose computer was damaged in shipping by UPS.

They were actually very quick to come by, take the old computer, and give him a check.

He came out with a much better computer than the one he started with - but it's almost inevitable when you to try to replace a computer.

In case anyone is wondering - yes, they picked up the old computer, and took it in its entirety. You don't get to keep the part you claim as damaged.

I didnt know Comaq had representation in New Hampshire, what town?

Compaq? Nashua NewHampshire, the old DEC site.... it turned over to compaq a few years back, most of the people working for DEC stayed on with compaq. They have about 3 sites within 30-45 mins of that one... (Lowell, MAS, and Little"something" )



This isn't a computer, and its through another company, I dont get a check for it, I get a new one sent by the company.... if they come to pick it up, they are just going to find a CPO box with my name on it.. will they track me down to the second floor of my door and try to find me at some point that Im actually there(never during the day)? And I will be moving soon, how will that work out.... I had the same issue with some damaged CD-r's (the company claimed UPS must have damaged them...) anyway... nothing has been picked up yet, and I Want to MOD this baby if they arent going to pick it up..
