So you haven't been concerned about a president using government propaganda and the media to influence public opinion for the last 8 years?

Will he use propaganda? Yes, pretty much every admin has in some form or other. Will the media go along with it? I'd say 50/50, with the social media lemmings leading the way.

I mean for fucks sake, he used it to get elected!

I hope that's offered in 55 gallon barrels, because 4 ounces isn't going to get them through one adult coloring book, let alone a whole pity party.

That induced a laugh in me.

This. Propaganda is always something the other guys does, never us! Democrats & Republicans think this way of each other, and we think this way of other countries.

Never implied propaganda was only one done by one party. Was just wondering the likelihood of him succeeding in getting a majority of main stream media on board and would gov propaganda shift any of the publics opinion on certain issues where they initially didn't agree upon?

As said by others of course some will be influenced on some specifics because that's politics. The difference between information and propaganda is very often determined how one views the particular goal. Note neither have to be true or false even the latter.

Now that Facebook has enlisted left-wing fact checkers to function as thought police their users will know "fake news" when they see it. I expect other forms of social media to follow suit.

For example, PolitiFact infamously said it was “mostly false” when Donald Trump claimed in a presidential debate that Hillary Clinton wanted “open borders.” PolitiFact made this ruling despite Clinton being on the record at a paid speech saying “My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders.”

Trump also said that Russia has 1,800 nuclear warheads and has expanded its arsenal while the U.S. has not. PolitiFact admitted that Trump’s claim was factual, but it rated the statement as “half true” for supposedly “missing the big picture.”

The narrative will remain in control by those that know what's best for you.

I love how when fact checking sites show the news you read to be mostly bullshit your answer is not to reconsider your sources but to declare the fact checkers liberal conspirators.

Snopes used to be awesome, but it's devolved, and there's a SJW editor checking the political "facts".

Yes, look at the other Putin puppet, Yanukovich. It's all about using "administrative resources" to stay in power.

Trump is using Putin as a role model, and let's not forget that as ex-KGB Manipulator-in-Chief, Putin was in charge of the most sophisticated propaganda apparatus this side of China, and now as Head Propagandist of Russia, his power to affect the world as we know it is only limited to his aspirations.

Trump sees this immense power that Putin holds and given Trump's strangely similar personality and goals, it just makes sense for him to envy, admire and attempt to emulate Putin and the results he gets from his extraordinary influence of HIS nation.

So when viewing the OP question from this angle, then yes, of course Trump is going to use the gov't as a propaganda tool in line with Putin's style of play AND it will be in perfect synchronization with the already well-oiled GOP Ministry of Propaganda.

Trump, with the assistance of the GOP apparatus is re-writing history as it happens.

Yes, he will continue to use propaganda to manipulate people as he has done for generations.

I believe Trump will deploy a different approach to influence public opinion.

I think he won't give a shit.

Literally, there is half (over half) a country that he will completely ignore. He will talk to his white American followers via Twitter. he will hold news conferences with Fox News. Hell we might not EVER see him in a White House Press conference, he already is cancelling press conferences and he isn't even POTUS yet.

and thats the way it is going to be.

They (Trump's followers) have a whole alternate, post-fact world that they can cozy up in for the next 4 years.

He will create whatever "facts" he needs to keep his (less than half) of the country happy. He will be out in 4 years, but it won't matter, because by then he will have his wierdo sons and daughter set the family business up for generations with deals in Asia, Eastern Europe, and South America.

If people believing the Pope endorsed Trump are any indication, I'd say the answer to the question is a big fat yes. He basically has the perfect smoke screen at this point. If he ever does anything legitimately damning as pres that the media rightfully calls him out on he could just be like "Well, remember how smug the media was? Remember how out to get me the media was? It's all lies, folks!" And with social media pushing so many different agendas simultaneously people won't know what to believe.
