my friend who hired me to build him a tricked out home theater system just got tile in the home theater room. will that kill the acoustics? he says though that he's going to have a few big mexican rugs covering most of it though so would that help?

It should be okay...tile isn't an endall. Realize that many people have hardwood floors, so if you're wondering about reflection of sound waves or something, just deal with it, there isn't much you can do about it apart from tearing it out and putting in something else.

and you're lucky...I wish I had friends that would hire me to build their systems. 🙂

Do you really think he'll hear the difference either way? As if people shoot for a flat frequency response these days anyway.

As long as it doesn't echo it will be fine. The rugs should take care of that.

It's not that they don't shoot for a flat frequency response, but helping them get there is a good thing, eh?

Definetely recommend the rugs.
