I have 3 hard drives C,Dand E. I load my operating system files on drive C. My program files on drive D and my data files/games on drive E. This way I can remove and reinstall my operating system without affecting my program files and data files/games. PROBLEM when installing program files they make registery entries on drive C registery. So when I reinstall my operating system I lose those program file registery entries (now the operating system does not know anything about the loaded programs on drive D). NOW, If I do a System State SAVE prior to reinsatlling my operating system WILL I be able to update my 'NEW' reinstall of the operating system registery with a ' Restore of system state"? This case I'm using W2k/winXP. WILL THIS WORK?????????

Thanks that's what I thought, just looking for a way around reinstalling all my programs. Backup programs replace everything including the operating system.
Thanks again:frown:

instead of reinstalling the OS, why not just ghost your C drive, or make an image of it? that way, just make one good install, and image your C drive, which would contain a good registry with links to all of your programs/apps/stuff located in your D and E drives. Then, whenever you want a clean install, it should only take you less than 15-20 minutes to be back up to a fresh install.

if you have any further questions, feel free to ask... good luck! :)
