Hi !

One quick question guys, i want to share my desktop's wired internet connection via WIFI, my PC doesn't have an integrated WIFI card so i was thinking of getting this http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-...5?ie=UTF8&qid=1384847694&sr=8-5&keywords=wifi or something similar, will that work ?

Will i be able to share my current wired internet connection with it ?

I am running Win 7 ultimate and connect to the internet with a username and password if this info is of any use to you.

I'm not sure what you're asking exactly. The product you linked to does the same as an integrated WiFi card. It will allow your PC to connect with a wireless router if you have one.

Now ... if you're asking whether or not it'll SEND a WiFi signal to other computers from a PC that's connected to a modem/router via an ethernet cord ... the answer would be no. It won't SEND a signal. It'll get you connected to your WiFi network (if you've already got a wireless router) and do the same thing as an integrated card though.

Damn 🙁

So what should i do to share my internet connection via wifi, are there any similar adapters that work ?

I don't have a router, just internet cable in my pc.

Could you invest in a budget wireless router? I'd recommend this anyway as I suspect you will be less secure connecting the Internet cable directly to your PC (no NAT etc)

I am on 1gbps connection so a router that will support WAN to LAN 1gbps will be quite expensive, aren't there any similar USB adapters like the one i've linked that will be able to share my PC's internet connection via wifi ?

You're wireless clients will have a very difficult time saturating a 1Gb link, or a 100Mbps link.

Anyways, if you capable of hooking up a router, get one that has gigabit LAN ports and configure it as a WAP

http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html

This will give you 3 gigabit LAN ports, and a wireless access point all in one.

So what is your current setup? and what is your goal?

The last thing I would recommend is what you want to do....Installing a WLAN adapter and configuring Windows 7 ICS (Internet Connection Sharing), it's far easier to change other things to accommodate the end goal.

I don't need fast WIFI internet ~20mb i'll be more than happy with, i just want to have WIFI for my phone and laptop around the house.

Capable routers that can support 1gbps WAN > LAN are ~90euro+, there are a lot that have gigabit ports (almost all of them) but not that many can sustain a 1gbps connection throughput, see this link for some examples http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/router-charts/

I could get a router as a worse case scenario but don't really see a reason to pay 4 times the price if i can accomplish the same thing with one of those USB WIFI adapters but the question is, will those USB WIFI adapters work, will i be able to share my PC's connection via WIFI ?

I'd like a USB one cause i can actually move it further away from my PC and place it in a better spot (more signal).

That's my point, you don't need a router with LAN ports that are gigabit. 100mpbs will be more than enough.

So are you connected from the PC directly to the modem? If so, getting a router is your best bet.

If you just HAVE to go with your plan, look up windows ICS windows 7 for AD HOC (wireless adapter)

I am Not familiar with the TP link USB that you linked to.

TP is an inexpensive lower tier Wireless manufacturer. Some of their hardware are Good for the price, and some are terrible.

However the software mentioned above would work with any WIFI Wireless card.

I do not know what is available in Romania, in the US I would get this.

Thanks !

Hard to find Rosewill stuff in RO but as long as any usb wifi adapter should work with the software you've mentioned ill try to pick up a decent one and give it a shot.

Will post back 😀.

Got that TP-Link TL-WN822N now, works with no issues.

I have tried to use VirtualRouter as you've recommended but sadly i can't see my internet connection in it (cant select it to share), i've used the software that came with the TP-Link adapter though and everything works good, i can share my internet via Wifi.

I have 2 more questions now that i've posted here http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?p=35819344#post35819344 if you guys feel like taking a look.
