will this work on a router??

Ok, Say my friend gets a linksys router with a 4 port switch. he already has a crossover cable (50 foot) and doesnt want to have to buy another one. Could be just plug his compouter into the uplink port with the crossover cable??

Yes I did that with my five port linksys switch for a couple of weeks with no problem
