Will this work? Black dress pant with charcoal blazer?

I am a graduating college student. I have a complete suit ready, but I am wondering if a blazer + dress pant would be sufficient. A full suit seems overly dressed for a pre-select interview. Thoughts?

You don't indicate how dressy or casual where you're going may be, so really how much help can we be?

It's better to overdress than to underdress. I am also not a fan of coats not matching pants, except in very rare cases.

I think it depends on your position.

If you are going for a management / sales / speaking job, definitely go with a full suit.

If it's a tech job, I think a dress shirt with a nice tie should be sharp enough.

I'm not so sure about the color combination of a charcoal blazer + black pants

This.

I strongly disagree. I always find out what the normal dress requirements are for the position and then go one step above that. This has been for all tech jobs btw.

Jeans and Polo >>> Slacks and Dress Shirt
Slacks and Dress Shirt >>> Slacks/Dress Shirt/Tie

If I were going for a management position then I'd probably go with the suit and tie. I've been to a few interview sessions where there are 5 guys wearing suits and me. All but one face to face interview that I've had has ended up with a job offer.

I'm not comfortable in suits, so I feel awkward and would rather get by on the strength of my personality than my ability to swing by the Men's Warehouse on 2 for 1 day.

In answer to your original question, if it looks like the combo linked above then I would say "Hell no, that just looks dumb".

Seriously, it's not like the interviewer is going to think "This guy looks waaaaaay too nice for this position."

No, but when I was interviewing some people I tended to like the guys without ties. They ones with ties looked uncomfortable and acted like they were trying to hard.
