The specs are:

Dell Dimension 4550 Series
Pentium® 4 Processor at 1.80GHz w/ 512K L2 Cache
Memory: 256MB DDR SDRAM at 266MHz
Video Cards: New 64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4? Ti 4200 Graphics Card with TV Out and DVI
40x/10x/40x Max CD-RW Drive with Roxio's Easy CD Creator®
Cable Modem

Will it play top-notch games?

Yes, if you were to get some DDRRam or RIMMs. And a Seagate 15K.3 SCSI HD and SCSI controller, then you'll be on your way. I wouldn't buy a Dell or any other brand. I'd build my own.

It should be able to play anything on the market with High settings on most.

(Most meaning anything I can think of)

Battlefield 1942, no problem. I run it fine on my XP 1400+ and Geforce 3 Ti200. No FSAA though, but you would have no problem turning on FSAA.

How would those help my performance? I know how RAM would, but a SCSI, how would it?

Will it?

yes, BF1942 runs on my 2000XP+ with a Geforce3 ti200...

I would recommend 512mb of ram though..

SCSI would make loading time much faster. The hard drive could be accessed much faster and much higher transfer speeds. But it's pretty expensive.

Oh, and multitasking would be better due to faster swap file transfer times, and faster loading times.

I'm going to wait until I really need the extra 256 RAM, I'm going to stay at 256.

Would it be able to run BF1942 without any lag, both computer lag and internet lag, on a PACKED server on one of their servers?

Yup. 512 RAM would be better though. But it should be just fine.

yeah, I also suggest the RAM upgrade....especially if you are gonna use XP on it....I've heard a lot of people say that there's a BIG difference between 256 vs. 512 when using XP

yeah, get another stick of 256 pc2100 ram.....266ddr right?

in order to multitask, that extra stick is essential..

it will run a lot of games.....arguably the most demanding game @ the moment is UT2k3...u will run that, but not @ highest settings...

take a look @ my rig..and if i put it to the highest settings..it avgs around 20-40 fps w/o AA....i put everything on "high" settings and turned off trilinear...and i get @ the lowest 40fps (on those killer huge maps) to 150fps (when i look @ the ground and don't move..hehehe)

so yeah, u can play most of the games out their @ the moment..so no worries :)
