This is my budget build that i would like to use for the next couple of years. My main goal was to keep the rig sub-$500 but the need for a monitor, keyboard, mouse and an OS(hopefully ill be able to find someone with an extra copy of w7), i had to expand my budget. What would you guys do to cut the total down to $500? Or should I keep this build? Any suggestions and opinions are welcome!

Some of us are too lazy to click 9 different links, so you might want to edit your first post to also include the part numbers such as GIGABYTE GA-880GMA-USB3 AM3+ $94.99.

Also, you forgot to read and answer the questions in the sticky thread, in particular telling us what you'll use it for -- email and farmville, running a business, gaming?

i was thinking about a prebuilt system, but it takes the fun out of assembling your own pc. also, the price difference between a prebuilt rig and mine wouldn't be to significant because of my need of a monitor,os,mouse, keyboard etc..

there's a $100 off coupon code for Dell XPS at Dell Outlet, so no, we can't match that.

You can get an XPS 7100 with an X6 and 4GB for $369 after code 309R05JS4FVV3Z
XPS 8100 with i5 2300 and 6GB for $449
They come with OS, keyboard, and mouse.

e: The $469 7100 will be in my cart for the next 15 minutes. Tell me if you want to jump on it and I'll release it.
Next cheapest is $539 with 8GB so I'll keep it for you.

:thumbsup: For a basic system with IGP, I see no reason not to go with Dell unless you are one of those people who simply must build every machine. Legit Windows 7 license included!

i went to the dell outlet site and checked out after i put in the coupon code and its not applying. i guess it expired :/ i really appreciate the notice though; that was a hell of a discount... i really dont need to build a computer, it's just that i never have and i really want to. however, i came along this little dude: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16856119046

i never was into tiny barebones systems because they dont seem that powerful, but i was thinking i could just hook this up to my tv and use it as an alternative?

^ Kudos for being willing to try your first build (& you'll receive encouragement & advice here if that's the way you go), but starting out on a tight budget can make it a frustrating experience for a first-timer (not being to get the items you'd like). And it's hard to beat the mass production economics of the big pre-builders, with OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse all available to be bundled cheaply into their offers.

It's going to be very slow (it's an Atom after all). I dunno if it is even up to playing HD youtube.

Try finding the last-gen i3/5s laptops, the CPU in them is still plenty fast. If you are lucky you can get one with a midrange mobile video card.
