I have that old PSU, been great for years and plan on trying it with this system:

Asus A8NSLI $200
Athlon 64 3000+ $150
1GB PC3200 $150
=500

+6600GT=680
+6800GT=900

sorry for the prices, i've got it saved on my PC in a doc.

looking at the 6800gt mainly. i should add that im not concerned with running SLI with this PSU, so do not take that into consideration.

if this PSU wont work at all, and you all are sure of that.. then I'm going with the neopower (I will upgrade to that model for sure if i ever use SLI). my assumption is that this quality 350watter will run one 6800GT fine (as the reports ive seen across the web seem to confirm this fact).

comments completely necessary!!!

It will work, but I would personally recommend getting yourself a good quality, stable PSU like an Antec True Power, Ultra X-connect, or PC Power and Cooling ect rated at 500watts or so. That way you will have no worries about replacing it even once you go SLI in the future. The Ultra X-connect 500w PSU is about $89 at the cheapest place, and the 400watt is $75, so even if you are on a budget, they are still within range, and its an amazing PSU to say the least.

At the very least, go for a 400watter, but you may need to upgrade it later depending on how much stuff you put in your comp.

400watt PSU http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...jsp?ProductCode=373032
500watt PSU http://www.xoxide.com/ultra.html (zipzoomfly is more exp. on this one by $10)

Thats just my suggestion. Any of the above brands will do you, but I REALLY like the Ultra x-connect. Its extremely stable power rails with plenty of juice, and its completely modular design (only attach the cables you need to power your pc) make it a very nice peice of hardware :)

Here is their website:

the 350 enermax will probably run dual 6600GT's in sli, but not daul 6800GT's. get atleast a good 480 watt PSU from a good name, if you get 2 6800GT's.

enermax makes quality units in general, so i'm sure it would power it.. just a matter of how well..
I think you'll be pushing it to its limits, and would probably want to invest in their 460W model, which can be picked up for $75 from directron.com

this site is a great resource for determining if you have a high enough wattage rating:
http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/

just keep in mind, you want to have about a 10-15% bumper to whatever wattage it recommends.

most Antec power supply would actually be a step DOWN from what you already have...

That PSU will be perfectly adequate. It might not deal with dual 6800 GTs, but you said you weren't worried about SLI.

How is Antec a step down? They're both high quality components.

better do your homework on that one, no way i would put that in a nice pc

don't flame me pal, do your homework

Ok "pal," I wont flame you, but you should at least explain yourself. I have 2 of them and they are extremely stable in each system, both of which are high end. Ones my workstation, and one is my new gaming comp.

Why don't you show me my "homework." I have yet to read a review that does anything but praise it. Show me some links if you don't mind, I really would like to read them if they are out there.

350w PSU will run that system fine but if you play games HEAVILY then you'll have to have a better PSU than 350w...maybe 500w.

My Antec 400w PSU died on me so I bought the 500w one and it works like charm.

So only 1 bad review? I'll do my "homework" but when there are hundreds of good reviews, and one bad one, why would that change my mind? :p I've seen more bad reviews on OCZ, Antec and Enermax PSU's.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

Bah. If I'm truely to learn, then somebody like yourself needs to help me along. Don't tell me how dumb I am, and then not show me where I am faulty.

PC power and Cooling btw, is in the "Ultra Budget Be Damned Best PSU Out There" section of that link you gave me as a recommended PSU.

I never said they had bad psu's ;)

they are rebranded, your homework is to find out who the original manufacturer's are and save a considerable amount of cash :)

So I found out that:

Fortrons are rebranded Sparkle's.
Thermaltake are rebranded Sirtec's.

I have not found a really good source that shows a list of all the main manufacturers and which ones are rebranded from who.

I am not sure why you are so stubborn with your information. It would be very useful, and would actually make a great sticky if you had a nice list like that.
