Will this PSU be sufficient for my P5B?

FSP Group FortronAX500-A verswion 2.0 Blue Storm

I noticed that the P5B has an 8 pin 12v plug on it and this PSU only has a 4 pin 12v atx connector instead of the newer 8 pin.

I am only running 1 hard drive (WD SE16 250gb), One 7900GT, soundblaster X-FI, and 2gb Corsair XMS 6400.

Would this PSU be sufficient for running this setup or should I get one that has the version 2.2 with an 8 pin atx connector?

You should be fine if you don't need sli. Fortron is an excellent brand. But if you're on a tight budget, the antec 500w units are cheaper. Fry's had one for only $49.95 recently.

It should come with a 4 to 8 pin adapter... as far a power requirements, you don't need a 500w psu. A 400w unit is more than sufficiant... check out the 400w fsp version of this product, the enhacne 5140gh, the enermax liberty 400w or the seasonic s12 430w. All are excellent units. Of late, fortron has been skimping on their "ax" psus so get something with fsp in front of it, or their epsilon series.

I actually already have the FSP Fortran 500w blue storm that I used on my DFI bord, I was just wondering if it would be ok with my new Dual Core Conroe 6600 and P5B mobo. The thing that concerned me is that the P5B has the 8 pin plug for 12v power and the FSP psu only has a 4 pin 12v plug. I will get a 4 to 8 pin adapter, but until I do will the 4 pin be ok or will it degrade performance?

I'm not sure you can plug the 4 pin into the 8 pin receptor. Might short circuit the MoBo, are you sure the psu doesn't come with an adapter?
