Will this PSU be enough? (I am not overclocking)

Why would you want to change the X800XL to a 6800GT? They both perform about the same. As for your PSU question yes it will be more then enough.

Because:

1) SLI(I suppose I could wait for crossfire)
2) 6800GT performs better than x800xl in more games so in general it is better
3) If I do decide to overclock, 6800GT overclocks much better than x800xl, x800xl is supposedly a crappy overclocker.

But anyways, is the PSU compatable with the rest of the system?(24/20 pin, enough voltages etc etc)?

This is my first build so I am hoping to learn a lot :).

Woah slow down there moneybags :p

His point was probably 2x 6800GT['s in SLI would be a waste of money when you could buy a 7800GTX for cheaper.

Hmm..ya but as single cards, x800xl v.s 6800GT, overall 6800GT performes better, yes?

dfi recommends 480watts but i think that psu would be close enough. for about that same price can get the fortron blue storm 500watts. native 24 pin which is required and has braided cables. thats what i would do if i were in your shoes.

The fortron is actually a 460w.

for the same money you can get the mushkin hp blue pc-3200 which will go much better with the dfi.

edit--the tpII 480 would be my psu pick unless you have ~110usd for the 550.

I believe that smart power has native 24 pin as well, at least my Smart Power 2.0 500 watt seems to, and it has modular cables, all for $50. I think the 450 would be way more than enough, especially from a nice brand.

i don't think the smartpower is a bad buy, however its not a dfi recommended supply and the he's going to buy an underpowered one while mentioning 6800gt and sli :p

even if he doesn't get either, the tpII is a better psu.
