Pentium 4 2.80 ghz/512/533

It has a celeron D something in it right now, just whatever dell shipped it with. Will the celeron stock heatsink be suffient or should I order a new heatsink and if so, which one. I would just need a basic no thrills no overclocking heatsink.

This is the celeron I believe:
Celeron® Bullet 2.53GHz, 533MHz front side bus, 256K cache

More specs for the motherboard: Front side bus 533MHz or 800MHz
Cache Up to 1MB L2

You didn't say which model of P4 chip it is. But I'm betting it's an older Socket 478 (because of the speed, the cache, and the FSB). Dell SC420 PCs use the newer Socket 775, which is incompatible.

Dell SC420s with 2.53GHz Celerons come with MASSIVE heatsinks, and would handle a P4 2.8GHz CPU just fine (if it fit).
