I was thinking of getting a Celeron 566 to overclock and I was wondering if this would work. I know in the bios that you can lower the clock multiplier to trouble shoot stability porblems. But, if you lower the multiplier (to offset the Celeron's high multiplier) would a Celeron possibly run at 133 FSB? This would increase memory performace even more over the 100 FSB and it might provide more ways to overclock if it works.

Intel clock multipliers are locked, i.e. you can change them in the bios, but it will either ignore the changes or it will not boot up. The only way to overclock an intel chip is through the FSB adjustments....

No, those chips are multiplier locked. You can only overclock by FSB.

Get a Duron to multiplier overclock. It's a sad fact! :(

You already have a PIII 733 with 256Mb of RAM. What are you trying to do that it cannot handle??? If you wanna spend money replace that Viper II, IMO it's a POS.

I was only mildly considering the celeron 566. I am really leaning towards building a Duron 600/650 and OCing. I was not sure if what i proposed would work now because of the Intel's clock lock.

Also how will a Gorb for a Socket A cool a Duron or should I go for something better. The only reason why I mentioned the Gorb is because it is the one of the better coolers that the local hardware place carries. The only other option there is a Cooler Master. I will admit that their prices are not the lowest compared to online vendors but buy the time I add in shipping and tax for online orders they are equal in price or lower. And, yes I do have to pay tax online. Indiana requires sales tax be added to online orders. I found this out when I ordered my mem from Crucial and later on Buy.com started collecting it too.

Yoshi: I am planning to replace the Viper with a GF MX when I build my Duron sys.

Jinsonxu is right, don't go anywhere near the orb "core crusher". They don't stack up to the g-w's or taisol's anyway. the coolermaster got my Duron 600 to 900 while I was waiting for a fop-38, so it should work ok for you.
