The other night lightning took out my router, NIC and Vonage device. Will this PCI NIC work with my motherboard? All the PCI NICs I've looked at have an extra "tab" that plugs into the MB.

NIC: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833166005

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130098

Also, If lightning came in on my equipment what can I expect as far as future failures. My cable modem is still working but it hit my router, computer NIC and Vonage device which were connected to the router. My PS3 was also wired to my router but it was across the room and unplugged from the power line. The PS3 works when connected to the modem so far. My computer, modem, router, monitor, ext. HDD and Vonage were connected to the outlet via a cyberpower UPS.

you look like you have an open pci-e 1x slot. you should consider going that way instead of pci, it's faster and will last longer. I would also suggest an intel nic (they have lifetime warrenty's and generally don't fail.)

I do have 2x pci-e slots open. I'm not sure how much speed I would gain as I only connect to 10Mbps cable internet. I don't do any networking. I also had a coupon code for the Rosewill and got it for $8. I really hate to put too much money in this old rig as I'm getting the bug to build another machine.

exactly why you should look into a PCI-E, your next upgrade with be less PCI and more E.

+1 for Intel as well

The reason I suggest an intel pci-e nic is that they are well supported and last a long long time, I still have my PCI-E pro 1000PT intel nic from my A64 3200+ machine in my current system in my sig. my nic still gets driver updates on a regular basis.

I didn't consider support for drivers but that is a very good point.

I spent well over 6 hours trying to get the Rosewill card working. I finally hauled out an older xp computer and couldn't get it to work. I gave up and I'm currently running a Rosewill wireless card which seems to be working ok.

I went ahead and ordered this intel card pci-express card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833106033

I'm running XP home SP3. Can someone please point me to a driver download? I'm at the intel download center site but I'm not sure if I have the right chip. I enter 82574L in the search downloads box and the select Windows XP Home edition. I see a driver version 17.0 and 17.1. Is this correct or do I have the wrong chip?

Also, can I just point the driver install prompt to the download and let it choose the file automatically? I'd rather not have anything else installed but the driver.

If your motherboard took a lightning hit that nuked the onboard NIC, it's probably going to start exhibiting other symptoms soon.

Start saving money to replace it.
