Will this mobo allow me to upgrade the CPU?

I have a MSI: MS-7548 motherboard. That is made for a HP machine.
I am currently running a Phenom II-X4 940 (D) (3.0GHz)CPU.
I have looked and can`t seem to find an answer to my question....

I would like to upgrade the CPU....do you think that is possible?
Possibly it`s a waste of time.

Any suggestions would be helpful...

Thanks

This BIOS update says AM3 models are supported (probably up to 95W TDP MAX though):

MS-7548 Motherboard BIOS Update

The bigger question is, if you are currently running a Phenom II @ 3.0GHz, is there anything that will give you a significant improvement in performance since you can't overclock? The answer is most likely, no.

You really don't need to upgrade your CPU. If you're having speed issues, it's most likely due to your hard drive or video card, not your CPU. That's one of the best home-consumer CPUs available. I say wait until the next generation of AMD CPUs comes out, then go for a hex core.

I have this same MOBO and am considering upgrading to the Phenom II X4 940. According to HP's site this chip isn't an upgrade option but obviously it's possible. Did you have to update the BIOS? What BIOS version do you have? Any other issues other than simply swapping the CPUs? I don't plan on doing any overclocking, but just updated the video card and bigger power supply is on the way.

This computer was custom made to order for somebody else who backed out of the deal at the last moment! I literally found it at a Best Buy where I live. They had just put it on the floor....May of 20911

The computer I replaced was a p4 3.2E with ASUS mobo and 2 gigs of ram and 2 -- 80 gig harddrives.....with of course cd/dvd burner....and a video card.....

My computer would reboot itself randomly....
I switched out PSU`s and then memory and I even alternated between hardrives.
It turned out to be my Sata controller was going bad....

So I went shopping and I found this computer for exactly as I am describing it for just under $400...I believed it was $379....HP Pavilion m9500z AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.0GHz 6GB 500GB
AMD Phenom II X4 940 (3.0GHz/6MB L3 Cache)
500GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
6GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x2048MB and 2x1024MB)
Total memory slots: 4 DIMM
LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVDRW w/Double Layer
onboard video RV730 Pro w/512MB, which I will be getting a video card.
Of course it comes with a keyboard and mouse.
Then the mobo has all the regular features...

EXTERNAL PORTS
Front:
15-in-1 memory card reader
Two USB
One IEEE-1394
Headphone
Microphone
Audio

Back:
Two PS/2 (keyboard, mouse)
One VGA
Four USB
One IEEE-1394

DIGITAL MEDIA
15-in-1 memory card reader

OPERATING SYSTEM
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit)

Anyways I felt I got a very descent deal....
I believe this computer will be faster and definately more stable than the one I am replacing.

Somebody else custom ordered it and for whatever reason I was in the right place at the right time and got a descent deal on a descent new computer!!

I'm looking at putting the CPU into the HP a6750f which I believe has the same motherboard. I'm not too keen on messing with updating the BIOS or changing settings so I moving cautiously...

Thanks for the reply.

I tried looking up info on MSI's site, but I could not locate the motherboard. I read somewhere that they're custom made for HP and those who inquired with HP didn't get clear answers.
