Will this laptop take 8gb memory sticks?

The memory controller is on the CPU and it's a 2nd Gen Sandy Bridge i5... so it should. Unfortunately the only way to find out is to try it. Also another way is to look and see if 16GB of RAM is available during purchase.

16gb isn't available during the purchase, but even the sager laptops that official support 16gb (they have 4 slots instead of 2, so 4x4gb), they don't allow you to configure them with 8gb modules. I think it's just that the sager resellers just go with the configurations that sager gave them so they aren't looking around yet for 8gb memory sticks. There probably isn't much demand for them from their buyers. Especially since if you want 16gb you can get it by going for the slightly heavier and beefier models that have 4 ram slots and also a better GPU, but worse battery life.

Thanks for your response, i'm of the belief that it should work and I will try it once the price becomes right. Good to know that there is nothing on the motherboard that should limit the ability to run, since the MC is on the CPU.

I once had a Dell XPS 17 2nd gen SB i5 notebook. It came with two sticks of RAM that looked like two slots, but some configurations came with four slots. Mine looked like it had two, but I apparently it had four. People from notebookreviewforums were also confused as to whether it'll support more than 8 GB. The only definitive answer was just to read up on the threads for success stories or try it. :(
