I know nothing first-hand, but numerous people are pushing me toward the 1GB of Corsair XMS 3200LL Ram. I'm going to be running an Intel D865PERLK (800FSB) w/ a P4 3.0 (800FSB). I'm leaving in about 5 minutes to go buy some at Frys - no, it's not on sale :(

You should have no problem running that. I have the same board with a 3 GHz and 1GB of the ram you're talking about running at 2-3-3-6.

Check the bios version on the motherboard; it should be version P05 when you get it. The most recent bios is P16 from Intel. I heard that flashing the bios to anything higher then P05 will disable PAT. Don't know if its true or not.

There's a thread about this either in General Hardware or in Motherboards.

if you can get those HyperX in 2.5v then the chances of it being a compatible high overclockable ram

thanks

i noticed a thread like that in the motherboard section...i assume you could flash 'down' to an earlier version of bios?

Yes you can.

And Rankor's right about that, anything past P05 diables PAT. This thread over at Asusboards is where we first discovered this nifty "feature". It's a 1400+ post thread andthe relevant part starts around post #300.

Yes, but not deliberately. They've effed up the BIOSes. The last 2 have tried to fix it but they're not quite there yet.

Some of us have reported this to Intel but we get these form letter replies back saying that it can't be disabled. We can prove it easily though with a few memory benchmarks and some utilities that show whether PAT is enabled or not. The benchmarks show this real well and are 100% repeatable. You can flash from the last good BIOS (P05) to any of the newer BIOSes and the memory performance goes down. Flash back to P05 and the performance goes up. I've done this doezens of times with 4 different 875PBZs and toher people have also got the same results. Read that thread for the details. I've posted the benchmarks and also the emails I've gotten from Intel tech support.
