Will this kill my hard drive?

I've got an external hard drive and was wondering if leaving it on 24/7 would shorten its usage life. I was just wondering because my computer is off for a reasonable amount of time. Thanks in advance.

hrm...I think that if it's colled adequately and you have it on a surge protection unit you'll be ok.

Yup just make sure the cooling is all good, then you shouldnt have anything to worry about. I've been running the IBM ticking bomb 120GXP 24/7 for almost a year now. Nothing happened yet hehe.

Thanks for the replies. What exactly can I do to make sure there is adequate cooling (besides blowing a fan at it)?
