Will this job be rewarding?

I landed a job as a internet repair rep for a cable company that pays $12.50/hour. The benefits are great, a free complete cable package, tuition money, as well as health benefits. I will soon have the option of going back to being a poor college student eating top ramen every day in a tiny room, courtesy my parents. This would of course mean quitting my job.

I am starting to like my job and see a decent earnings potential, maybe even more than what a liberal arts degree (all I could get with my grades) could offer. I am 20 years old and have a few years to blow on working my way up the corporate ladder for a higher wage.

My question is, does this job have a real career potential? I assume many of you started low on the totem pole in the IT field and can relate to where I'm coming from. This question comes to mind because I see job listings at Verizon which basically say if you've been working my job for a year you can make $23/hour.

Well if there is upwards potential that is always a plus. See if you can talk to anyone who works at the company that has been there a few years, see what they say.

Take the job and use it as a stepping stone. You could be working at bed bath and beyond or TGI Fridays with the rest of your liberal arts class. Assuming this will be a traditional call center type job the turnover rate is usually high, but people who stick with it for a year or so usually have no problem moving up to Level 2 support elsewhere or getting section or group manager type jobs.

I'm working in an inbound tech sales call center, and in 9 months my pay has nearly tripled with bonus, commission etc... but the first 3 months were brutal.

Rewarding? Not very likely;

More likely, the job will be Frustrating.

My computer won't work;
first question should be, is the electricity on, in your cubical/house, etc. ;)

Just take some downers with your Wheaties in the morning and you should be ok.

I worked between two call centers in 13 months (couldn't find a "real" job after graduation). Honestly, for me, it was a nightmare.

Oh, and a lot of places give false hopes of promotions to keep you from quitting. At least that's how my first call center job was. The second place saw that I knew my stuff and promotions came quick, but I left soon after joining because I finally landed a job in my field of study as a software engineer...
