I was hoping to have just enough money to build a new computer in the next month, but it looks like I won't be able to do that until sometime late next year. I do have about $175 I can spend so my question is with my current system would upgrading to a better graphics card be worth it.

I have this socket A motherboard

A 1.14 ghz processer (sorry I don't know exactly which cpu)

1gb of ddr3200

and a 5600xt graphics card.

My power supply is a generic Mustang 450watt supply so I will upgrade that. Probably with a 450 forton for $50.

I am playing Battlefield 2 but it takes forever to load. Would this make a big difference or would I be wasting my money?

i'd rather wait it out until next year. the processor need the upgrade, but its off a socket a board, which will limit further upgrading capabilities. and then there's the video card, although should play it on low, you probably get occasional lag spikes because its a 5000 series, which sucks. if its only taking forever to load, but doesnt lag like crazy during gameplay, then you'd want to have patience.

wait until next year. save up about $500 and u should be good. your cpu is pretty slow so that'll limit your gpu anyway imo

Save the money, buy a "kick your teeth in" system next year. The upgrade will help but your system is old enough to require extensive upgrades...which would mean that if you were making all those upgrades anyways you might as well have gotten a new system. Think of it this way, you're going to be spending the next 6-8 months on a "weak" system but next year when you have your money saved up you'll be able to buy an awesome system that should last you for the next 5 years (expect for the occasional video card upgrade after 1.5-2 years).

NEVER use a game to force you to upgrade your system when you're not ready to. You should never feel the need to upgrade just because the latest greatest game won't run well on your system. If you do, you fall into the trap set by the hardware makers and game developers. The game will still be there and it will still be great 6 months from now. Heck, it'll be better because everyone already beta tested it for you.
