will this happen to my parents dogs?

One of my friends has a doberman and a couple of chiuauas as pets. I'm not too sure, but I think he has had them together for a few years. A couple days ago, all of a sudden, the doberman killed one of the chiuaua. Needless to say, he is pretty upset.

This got me thinking about my parents situation. They currently have a chiuaua and have had it for 4 years. About a 3 weeks ago, they recieved a baby golden retriever(around 4 weeks old). What are the chances of the retriever attacking the chiuaua like my friends situation?

From what I see, the chiuaua just ignores the retriver the whole time, butsometimes, the retriever would go to the chiuaua and kind of nudge her a bit, or try to bit the tail. I'm not sure if that is a sign of playfulness or agressive.

The chiuaua is an indoor dog, and the retriver stays outside the backyard the whole time, so I"m not sure if we need to keep an eye on them if they are together in the same area.

what do you guys think?

Sounds like a "ruff" situation to me.

Just keep the pup inside for a while. If the dog is biting the other's -- it is most likely a sign of playfulness. If there is growling and barking, you can tell. But even that's another sign of playing sometimes. Just look at the dog's posture and back (if it's hunched that's not good).

Random joke:

A three-legged dog walks into a saloon in the Old West. He walks in and says...

"I'm looking for the man who shot my paw."

I don't think golden retrievers are vicious killers

If anything, I'd worry about him playing with the chihuahua too roughly

vicious, even. . . .

Golden Retrievers are friendly dogs, I wouldn't worry about it at all . . . except if the chiuaua drowns in the golden retriever's slobber . . . .

I'd be more worried about the chiuaua starting crap with the golden and then ending up dead. Meet a lot of stupid and mean chiuauas. Small dogs don't know they are small.

Since the golden was a puppy and grew up around the chihuahua, it will probably respect the smaller dog as its elder.

Plus, goldens really aren't aggressive dogs, as dobies are.

And anyone who tries to tell you that dobies aren't naturally more aggressive, especially towards other dogs, is just an idiot.

One thing to remember is, anything can happen. I had 5 dogs and all lived together fine....usually. Every 1 1/2 years or so, a couple would decided they didn't like each other anymore and fight...resulting, eventually, in the death of one of them.
They'd be fine for a year or two, and all of a sudden they'd fight.
So there's no guarantee, but with the golden, you have one of the best breeds as far as being docile.

Thats one of the reason I don't like it when people mix sizes so much. Its one thing if you have two dogs of about the same size and they get in a fight. Most of the time they will come out fine, maybe need stiches, but throw a 5lb dog in with a 70lb dog and just a minor scuffle/nip = dead 5lb dog. Dogs will be dogs.
