I am going to install my system partition on a new Cheetah st336704LC which is the newest 36 gig U2 drive from Seagate. I currently have an IBM 9 gig 10K RPM U2 with a 2 gig partition(system/BOOT) and 6 gig Partition (data).

My system partition was 2 gig on the IBM and I was running out of space. I am about to say goodbye to it and us ehte seagate as the primary boot/system and storage drive.

good idea or not,, will my system be faster,, or more quiet? I hope so. The seagate seams pretty quiet.

Well, you will probably see a little of performance increase since the Cheetah has a higher density (less seek time) than the IBM, and it's probably quieter as well, but I wouldn't count on a huge difference tho'.
