It will depend on the resolution you're playing at, what game, and the exact card you would be using. You need to provide more information.

You should be fine in the majority of available games. But games like Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3 and a few others will be held back slightly by the lack of more CPU cores.

I don't have first hand experience with a set-up like that, so I can't give you any firm numbers. But I would imagine that with a 5670 everything should be playable at that resolution with mostly med/high settings. As for a 5770, if you can afford it it will mean that you should be able to play almost everything at high settings with some AA without issue.

It really depends on the game, even at that resolution. If you can and it's not too much more expensive, then a 5750 or 5770 would be the way to go, and you'll pretty much assure yourself you'll as good of a performance as you can expect in any game. The 5670 would still be a good option. I don't particularly see a bad choice between them. I would lean towards the 5770, as surely you're about ready to upgrade that monitor, or maybe you'll connect it to an HDTV someday, and you'll want a little extra horsepower.

I would grab a 5750 for gaming 1280x1024. well actually I would gouge my eyes out if I had to play games at that claustrophobic 5:4 aspect ratio. and really you should be using 1280x960 anyway since that is a 4:3 crt. also I bet that crt only does 60hz at 1280x1024/960 so many people would get a little nauseous from the flicker. and if thats the case you might as well get a 5670 and just play at 1024x768 since that is likely the native resolution anyway.
