Hi, guys I just ordered two of the 1700+ "B" cpus from newegg and hope to overclock to 2ghz and beyond :p. Please lmk what you guys think the temps will be and if it will too hot for comfort. Thanks in advance

Here is a link to the cooler in question: SVC GC69

BTW: this is posted in another thread so please don't flame me, because it applies in each one

That cooler will probably get you 2.0ghz maybe 2.1ghz with some 40ish C temps.

Don't go for cheap especially if you are going to overclock the piss out of that 1700+ TBred!
I use the SLK 800 ...... awesome damn cooler. Keeps my 1700+ TBred running at 2.2Ghz a cool 32C at idle and 36 to 40C under load.

There is some merit to getting a good HSF if you really want to overclock the chip. However, hav any of you guys considered the lunacy of spending more on a HSF set than you did on the chip in the first place? I would try the GC69 myself and see how if fares.

That's just your point of view/perspective ;) here's another, I spend US $26.50 on an Aeroflow with 5600rpm TMD fan or SK-7 with 80mm Y.S.Tech for my 1700+ and overclock the CPU to 2.4ghz@210fsb synch on a NF2 board. I now have roughly equal performance to a $500ish 3200+ that I would need a good cooler for anyways for 75$-80$ ;) I wouldn't consider that lunancy.

sk6+

dude spend the extra $2 and get these, these o/ced my computer just fine :) just throw a couple of extra 80mm fans lying around and you got yourself a decent cooler (use the X method)

How do you attach a 80mm fan on a sk6+?

Also note, you have to be noise tolerant if you want to get a cooler with a 5000+ rpm 80mm fan, it is considerably louder. And if you get one of those tornados, jeez its like a vacuum cleaner. I have 1800+ DLT3C JIUHB that I will OC soon, and i'm gonna use the good ole' GC68 on it, so i will let you know of my results. Other guy in forum told me he got his 1700+ DUT3C to 2075mhz @ default 1.6V with a GC68 imitation and it does 36 idle. So thats a good note.

Yep, the 45 deg. rotate trick works like a charm. I added an empty fanless 80mm to raise the 80mm I put on my sk6 (basically it's stacked 80mm's with 1 workingf fan) and it dropped about 4-5c.
