will this celeron work in this system?

My father has a (cough!) emachine. It currently has a celeron that is a 466mhz I think. What is the fastest celeron he can upgrade to? thanks!

Your going to somehow have to identify the Motherboard, and find info at the manufactures website. you may be able to go to Emachines website and get upgrade info. Take a look at the motherboard bios and see if it has adjustments to FSB availabale.

If it only takes old style Celerons (Mendocino I believe) then it can take upto a PPGA 533 (Max speed for that core)

who knows what it can take if it can manage with a Coppermine CPU

you'll have to find out the mobo make, etc. like was mentioned before.
