Will this BUSH desk support a 70lbs 21" CRT?

My model is slightly different colored but it looks like this one. Now it could be just me, but I always had the notion that someone should know how much weight a product can support. So I called customer service and after 10 minutes the lady said that neither the supervisor nor the engineers knew how much it could support but suggested no more than 70-100lbs. Huh? Well, it's useless arguing, I guess that's just one thing they forgot to take into consideration. Anyhow, I just got in a Dell 21" FD Trinitron CRT and it weights 70lbs and I need your input. Do you think it's safe to put it there? Might there be too much stress on the wheels? Any help is much appreciated ... thanks!

stand on it, if it doesn't collapse, you're fine. If it does, you needed a new one anyway for your new monitor 🙂

I've sat on it before and I weight 140lbs. So I guess it's fine then. Now I just hope the thing fits on top. Anyone else? Maybe someone has this desk? And do you think it's worth it to maybe strap a cable or two around the bottom of the swivel (where it's invisible) for safety?

easy: Throw it off the roof, run it over, burn it. If it survives the test its worthy of holding a 21" beast.

you forgot the 1200 degree fire test

lol, don't worry about it working. I have a desk that looks the same as that and I have 2 monitors on it. One is my 70lbs+ Nokia 445xpro 21" and the other is my 40ish lbs Sylvania 17" I don't think your desk will have any issues, unless you assembled it yourself, then you never know.... 🙂

1. they probably don't have engineers sitting around calculating desk loading, I think any there would be doing manufacturing work not necessarily desk design
2. you shouldn't have to worry about catastrophic failure of the desk due to 70 lbs
3. what you do have to worry about is they use particle board most likely and if overloaded it will start to sag heavily (especially if it's humid)
4. shouldn't be too much stress on the wheels unless they are really sucky, even small POS wheels I've seen have 20lb ratings on them
