Suggestion, don't get the smartpower line. They have bad caps and will go bad on you prematurely 95% of the time. If you can, get the earthwatts 380W, they are better units and don't have that problem.

Or heck, this was posted 2 days ago, Frys has the earthwatts 500W for $50, if they still do I'd jump on it if I were you

Oh so you already have it.

Is it new or used?

I'd go ahead and use it then, but just be aware of the caps inside. If you are good with a soldering iron you could replace them a bit later on. Or if you don't want to mess with that then use it and when it quits replace it (and PM me because I may take it off your hands to save it from the trash, I repair stuff like that).

Don't know where you heard that crap from. I have a SP2.0 450W that powered my rig for a while (Opteron 165, X1900XT) and now powers my file server 24/7 without problems.

I heard it and like you didn't believe it because all my SP/TP PSUs I had used were fine, powered without problems... for a while.

All of them, every single one of them, blew their caps later on as well. My most recent TP2 blew in only 9 months and I wasn't even loading it heavily. Friend has a SP2 450W which currently is running fine but you can see one of the caps through the fan grill starting to bulge. Now most of these PSUs I had lasted for a couple years at least (the one almost made it to 5 years before it quit) which is why I said to just use it since he already has it.

All you gotta do is do a search and you'll find more of the same. SP, TP, SP2, and TP2 are all plagued by bad caps. Most of the time those caps gave out prematurely.

Ask Galvanized, he and I argued over this many many times, and he just kept telling me "your time will come" - I thought he was full of crap. But he was right, my time came and I was without a PC because my PSU took a dump like he said it would. I learned the hard way :( Don't make the same mistake I did.

But the good news is, the Antec NeoHE, TP trio, quattro, earthwatts, and basiq are all rid of the crap caps. Their entire current lineup is crap cap free. You still may get a SP2 or TP2 that was bundled in a case or from a store that has some old stock left, but that's it.

BTW, all but the 550W TP2 are running again. I recapped them all. The TP2 I just RMA'd and I got a refund, which I put towards my current PSU.

well its really NOT crap.
It has been well documented even on this site that ovr time that particular model has CAP issues.

For along while it seemed like a day didn`t go buy that there was`nt a complaint about that particular model of PSU on these forums as well as othr forums.

But as I have stated in other thread I would have no problems purchasing any of the newer model Antec`s!!

Peace!!

I've had this PSU for a year and a half. It came with my old Sonata II. I haven't had any problem with it. Runs 24/7 too. <shrugs>
