As far as I know, there are no laptop ready socket 939 or 940 mobos avaiable hence no FX/Opterons in laptops. This is what I've seen and I may very well be wrong.

i think they will eventually, but i dont see how it will be popular since it'll be a gaming laptop. first of all, games make the system heat up, and when laptops heat up, it'll lag really really bad. also, y would you need an fx to power even a radeon 9800?

They have the Extreme Edition Intel laptop at Alienware or somehwhere similar. Go for that if you really need such power in a laptop. Be forewarned the battery life is negative 35 minutes lol, and it will cost you something like 4500 bones

I don't think it's a good idea.

Like he said. Plug it in 10 minutes before you turn it on, so you can use it.

chuckling..thanks Guys....I do a lot of multitasking and was looking at the centrino dothan 755 or a 3.2ghz processor like in my desktops and had read some more things tonite on the 64 bit processors and that the fx ones seemed to be the best of the 64 bits and was just curious about them...thanks...t

The FX is not best to get at this point because of its enourmous (not in a good way) price. An overclocked 3400+ to 2400Mghrtz will give 90-95% performance of the stock FX-53 speed for a fraction of the price. 64bit in of itself is not going to give a great boost in peformance when Windoze 64 finally comes out (must be waiting for the emulated Intel 64 crap) but it will be the 16 64bit general purpose registers combined with 64bit code. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM 16 64bit general purose registers

Get the Centrino if you want great battery life and decent performance. Get an A64 if you want raw performance and good enough battery life. Depending what brand, expect approximately 3hrs of batt life during normal use of an A64 notebook. In almost every case w/Centrino tho (Dothan or otherwise), you always get over 4. But you will prolly shell out mucho denero for Centrino, so weigh that as well.

yes..battery life is not really a concern, as I will use it 99 percent of the time plugged in...a desktop replacement when away from home...thanks..t
