I think they might just be getting more attention than usual. Is it just me, or does it seem like there have been a lot of kidnappings lately?

No it's just you... kidnappings happen all the time.. it's just now that the media wants to do a cover story on every kid who's white, pretty, comes from an upper or upper-middle class family, and has been missing from their multimillion dollar house for 24 hours.

There are some exceptions...but lets take a look see on people the public remembers, and lets see what they all have in common. Who remembers:Originally posted by: Xerox Man

I gotta disagree with you Andy, the girl in San Diego got plenty of media attention, and I've seen several other kidnappes in the news who don't match your profile.

Who remembers: Jon-Benet Ramsey Elizabeth Smart Polly Klaas Adam Walsh Now what did you just say in your quote? You said "the girl in San Diego". Everyone who turns on a TV, listens to the radio, opens a newspaper, or go on the internet knows who Elizabeth Smart is, whereas "that girl in San Diego" is just "that girl in San Diego." I bet more people know more about Elizabeth Smart because of this compared to "the girl in San Diego", or "that girl in Pennsylvania that escaped from her kidnappers". See what I mean? When my Michelle disappeared there was no national coverage. Hell I had to beg the local TV station to broadcast that she was missing, and that took almost a week, and the Police didnt even ask them to do so. The local newspaper, The Lawton Constitution refused to print her story as missing untill two weeks had passed. Seems that was their policy on missing persons due to so many run aways, that they saw it a waste of thier time. It wasnt untill they all realized that she would never be seen again that they gave any real attention to it, and even then only a tiny article in a non attention getting part of the paper. You see if your child is 21, she is considered an adult, and most people dont give a rats ass what happens to an adult. If it doesnt affect your direct family, its just another story. At the time of Michelle's disappearance John John Kennedy and wife went down in the Ocean. Millions and Millions of dollars spent on media coverage and recovery and that blanketed the media in those weeks. My daughters murderer could very well die without us EVER knowing the story or where her remains rest.Yes, its sad, but unless you are linked to someone with strings to pull, your story may never be heard.
Will they ever find Elizabeth Smart?

what if everyone emailed a television network on mastertech01's daughter's behalf. I know in SoCal there are a few televison networks that will do "unsolved crime" stories. Unfortunately they only televise stories of interest in this area. If we get a hold of any Lawton networks that do these kind of stories maybe they'll get the word out or of course we could all wait for one specific night and email america's most wanted and hope they do a quick profile.

Of the cases you cited in your list all the well known ones are dead. Adam Walsh's father went on to start Americas Most Wanted which is why he and that case are so well known, Jon-Benet is still unsolved with the family as the prime suspects, Polly Klaas likewise dead in a brutal manner. The 2 unknown ones are unknown because they are both now home and safe. The girl that escaped was not missing long enough for a very public search to begin so there is 0 reason for her name to be seared in the public memory. It would be nice if people would quit looking for a race/class angle in every single thing that happens in this country.
