Will these adapaters work for Eyefinity?

Strongly considering getting two more monitors to take advantage of HD 5870 Eyefinity.


Got a question about adapters, etc.

Both monitors inlcude VGA cables, but I need DVI. From what I've seen, DVI to VGA adapters are considerably cheaper than DVI cables.

I have two DVI outputs on the HD 5870. I already have one DVI to VGA adapter that came with my motherboard, haven't had any issues with using it so far.

I have to buy an active DisplayPort to DVI adapter for Eyefinity: http://accessories.us.dell.com...dhs&cs=19&sku=330-5521

Can I plug a DVI to VGA adapter onto that without issue?

I found these super cheap, which makes me slightly suspicious, adapters on eBay. Do they seem like they would work?

Also, is there any performance difference between DVI, HDMI, VGA, etc.?

This will not work because at least one of the 3 monitors needs to be Displayport. Also, if you are finding these adaptors to be "considerably cheaper" than DVI cables, you obviously haven't checked Monoprice.

I was under the impression that the DisplayPort on the video card had to be used for triple monitors. Using an active DisaplyPort to DVI adapter should be fine, shouldn't it? It seems that other people are going that route with no problems...

Yeah, people have had success with that adapter..

However, the picture will be better using a DVI cable than the vga cables. You'd be better off grabbing a few of these from monoprice.. http://www.monoprice.com/produ...id=2408&seq=1&format=2

You won't save much buying the dvi to vga adapters, but you'll likely wait longer to get them and will have a blurry/soft picture.

If you're going to drop $800 on two more of those monitors and $100 on the active displayport adpater, why cheap out on 3 dvi cables that would run you less than $20 shipped

You rock! The only DVI cables I kept seein' were 16 foot long and about $20 a piece.

I had a feeling that DVI was a better quality compared to VGA.
