Will there ever be another FPS as fun for 1-on-1 deathmatch as Duke Nukem?

I just had a flashback to playing 1-on-1 deathmatch with DN - flying in jetpacks around a large city map with lots of hiding places, laying traps with tripmines behind closed doors and luring my roommate into them, blasting people to shreds with the devastator, hiding in pools and laying ambushes, mid-air battles with the jetpack...[sigh]. We used to have 8 guys lined up spectating and waiting for next game...man that was awesome.

Watch all the kiddies who don't even know what Duke Nukem is (was) come in to claim UT2k4 or something is so great :/

Not anytime soon.
DN was awesome, great interactivity, great atmosphere, lots of weapons, large open areas, usable items...
Redneck Rampage, Blood and Shadow Warrior were fun as well, but DN owned. I guess I'll try out the Duke3D port today...

Maybe someone should make a DN mod of UT2k4, then it can be the greatest 1-on-1 ever :p

Firing a rocket from a rocket launcher through a teleporter so it comes out and hits another teleporter and flies ever onward until someone goes into the WRONG teleporter. :D

My friend's brother used to get pissed because I was forever crawling all over the map, I would never stand up and give him a clear shot.

I found Halflife more fun for deathmatching.

It was always a treat to see just how creative you could get with the laser tripmines :D

I was a HUGE Q2 fan...loved the grappling hook! Still Duke had something that Q2 didn't - particularly for 1-on-1. It was deathmatch with a distinct strategy component. Cunning was as much a part of the game as reflexes...that's what I miss.

It was pretty good. The best part about DN3D was that there was a cooporative mode. I remember trying to get people to play but no would would play against me so I had to do coop with them.

I usually was the hunter, but once on the second map I hid so the person I was up against thought I was in the building and went looking for me. I filled the floor outside totally with pipebombs, and sat there waiting. He set foot outside, and saw a huge wave of explosions approach him... It was worth it for his RL reaction to that :p

Haha, I loved setting up laser trip bombs by the toilet doors, letting people in the stalls get blown to shreds when they opened the door. :D
