Could there not be some kind of authentication system? You know like a game key code that once used can never be used again? Certainly there are some ppl that could come up with a workable system.

It would probably involve some implementation of quantum cryptography, which is just breaking into use right now.

True. But, look at how the few glitches that we've had with electronic voting machines and many want to throw them out and go back to pencils and paper.

The upside of a police state and echelon, is they can verify your DNA from orbit which is already stored safely away in the bowels of .gov databases.

There would be no way for internet voting to happening. There are way to many different things that could go wrong. Hacking is one of the bigger concerns. You also have to take into consideration with glitches. Also, power outages, and much much more. I won't see voting on interent in our lifetime.

But your car could break down on the way to the poll - noone cares about that?

I still think that there is a solution that would allow voters to do this.
