IMO rebates are partial scams. A not insignificant number of them stall your submission or never send it to you, even if you repeatedly ask them and show them the photocopies you made. It'd be great if the government did something about these frauds.

 
yeah, isnt' it always funny after the rebate is past due and you call them, the check is in the process of being cut. more like, if we dont hear from you, we keep your money.

I just had a major rebate tussle with Fry's and AT&T and had to send letters to their corporate offices. The item I bought was advertised with rebates, but Fry's management flat out refused to give one of them to me saying it didn't exist. They even printed out a rebate receipt for it, but somehow reasoned since they didn't have the form in their store, that it did not exist. Even though it was listed on the price tag for the item. AT&T resolution called me and gave me the money, but I still have not heard from Fry's two weeks after I got return receipt on my letter, and 6 weeks since my initial complaint. Rebates are a scam right now, and the situation is going to have to get attention from the media before it changes. I wish 60 minutes or someone would do a story on it.

Yeah, I feel like the situation has actually gotten worse over the years. Some major news program should fill out several rebates from various stores, items and rebate houses, and track exactly how long it takes to get each rebate.

 
I got screwed on the Linkworld $25 reabte on one of their cases. I will be filing complaints with the BBB and all that tommorow. Oh Yeah.
 
That reminds me. I need to fill out a complaint at BBB for Fry's tomorrow.
