Will there eventually be PCI-E mobo's for the socket 754, and will there eventually be a dual slot solution for SLI etc for socket 754?

I don't think there will be SLI boards, because that's high-end. But definately there will be PCI-E motherboards, as socket 754 is not dying (there will be new processors for it in Q105, according to AnandTech's sources).

Does that mean s754 athlon 64's? or s939's -.-a

Any. I've said it a zillion times already: Thanks to HyperTransport architecture, the chipset no longer is the heart and soul of the system, it is just an I/O function. On AMD64, the "chipset" neither knows nor cares about what kind of CPU there is and how many of them are there.

There will be 754 nForce4's, but only the vanilla kind. That means PCIe, but no SATA-II, 1GHz HTT, overclocking, or some of the functionality of the hardware firewall. Eventually, as these things become more mainstream, they may change their mind, but by that time, it will probably be a new chipset, anyways. One thing that kinda sucks for overclockers is that it looks like nVidia is trying to stop the low-end sempron overclocking that is bound to occur in the future. I don't know if Via is planning on doing this, or if new nForce3 boards on 754 will be similarly crippled, but if you want to build a 754 overclocking platform, then nForce4 is not your best bet.

A chipset that supports only 800MHz HTT is not necessarily a bad overclocker at all - the DFI LANParty can do 300MHz "FSB" and it uses the nForce3-250Gb chipset (800MHz HTT).

The only socket 754 PCI-E board showed yet is the Chaintech VNF4 Ultra (nForce4 Ultra chipset).

But it allows the HT multiplier to be changed. Anyone running 300+ on the LANParty is also running a 3x multiplier on the HT.

All plain nForce4 boards are supposed to do ONLY 4x. This means you'll get to where the HT speed is around 1050-1100 or so and then your motherboard will run out of steam. It makes sense that you COULD curb overclocking by somehow crippling the capability of the HyperTransport (locked multi and somehow make it so it doesn't like to run above ~900 MHz or so). However I think nVidia has little motivation to do so. If nVidia doesn't have a good S754 overclocking chipset, and consumers want them, then someone else will make them (VIA?) and nVidia will lose money. This isn't a case like Intel where the same company makes the CPUs and chipsets. AMD/nVidia are seperate entities. In general, I thkn it's in nVidia's best interest to promote overclocking options. However, it's clear with the HT multiplier distinguishment between the nForce4 and the nForce4 Ultra that they are trying to create extra profit margin by forcing people to pay more for things that don't cost anything (or very much) extra.

It means whatever the hell motherboard manufactureres want to put on the board.

Found another socket 754 that has pci-e on it. It is called TuL AX480A7 (Socket 754 Radeon XPress 200P). It is made with ATI new chipset :).

nForce4 is already planned for 754, in fact, I saw some pictures somewhere of a few of them. However, you're out of luck if you're planning to do some sempron overclocking with them. The only boards for 754 are of the non-ultra version, meaning their multiplier and FSB are both locked, as well as lacking SATA-II and all the CPU offloading of the hardware firewall. I personally wouldn't waste my time, unless you're building a budget system for someone who doesn't plan to overclock. If you got stuck with a 754, my advice is wait, and when you need to upgrade, sell that system to grandma or someone who just needs a normal system, and get a 939 system with nForce4. Or just hold off until socket 900 and DDR2 with dual core.
