Question Will there be issues if I uninstall Microsoft Edge ?

I don't use Edge and don't forsee ever using it. I am strictly on Firefox, and use Chrome only when some website does not work with Firefox.

I want to remove Edge. Read online that Microsoft does not provide a utility for removing Edge and says it should not be removed. Wondering if any of you have removed Edge and if problems / issues started after removing it?

Just don't use it?

Microsoft likely installs many things you don't use. Even if you found a manual way to remove, you'd cause some kind of issue (and it would eventually be automatically reinstalled during a Windows update).

As stated, if you do uninstall Edge the cumulative Windows updates (1507 - 20H2) will reinstall it. All this means is you'll need to uninstall it again after future cumulative updates. There'd been talk that removing Edge caused some problems to arise but I've personally not seen evidence of it. Here's a known-good script from Win Aero that still works. In addition, if you have or if a Windows Update has installed the Chromium version of Microsoft Edge (which I highly recommend using as it's fantastic) you'll need to go into your control panel's program and feature's section and uninstall it (there are other ways like the new modern UI "Settings" > "Apps" then find the app click on it and click uninstall)

Then run the script from Win Aero

I installed Win 10 today, upgraded from Win 7 Pro.

I don't see Edge listed in the Program and Features section of the Control Panel.

That's fine, if you carefully check my post again you'll notice it's only chromium Edge that does that and if you click on the blue writing it will lead you to the Hyperlink for the download to launch the script which removes the original (native) version of Edge.

But... Edge keeps using you. After the 20H2 update, certain functions default to Edge, and the ability to uninstall Edge is gone (it is not a choice.) As was suggested, you can manually uninstall the update that included it (the 20H2 update...) but it will keep reinstalling it anyway. It did it 3 times on me.

Microsoft has made their browser part of the OS since the Explorer days.

When I install Windows, I set my default browser to Chrome/Firefox, etc, so whatever Microsoft browser is on my PC at the time never sees any use unless I manually launch their browser. Everyone has different expectations, but having whatever (unused) Microsoft browser on my doesn't bother/impact me at all.

There are just certain apps that are just part of the package for all operating systems out there, from Windows to Android to IOS.....they all contain stuff that can't be removed.
