Itll soon be 10 years since the originals release, 10 years since kerrigan smashed the terran dominion and sent the UED packing. Thats hella long time for a very popular game to go without a sequal. Theyve constantly teased too, with the hydralisks and marines in warcraft 3, and starcraft ghost which was canned. Blizzard aint what they used to be, all they seem to care about is warcraft. Is the original warcraft team still at blizzard? Is that the reason they focus on it more than the other two franchises??

Personally i really really hope there is an SC2, but its looking rather grim.

The original SC team isn't at Blizzard anymore. And StarCraft was just a fluke and they know it.

A fluke? They followed up two crappy RTS's that had no impact on the genre whatsoever (Warcraft 1 and 2) with an awesome RTS! What a fluke!

I recall Blizzard saying something about thinking about SC2, but not developing it. I used to be a hardcore Brood War fan, even joining an SC forum and making some-1k posts.

Unfortunately, it's very very difficult for Blizzard to make a Starcraft 2 - the expectations are FAR too high, and it's very difficult to improve on a game that was near-perfect in the first place. If Blizzard changes any of the gameplay, SC fanboys (and there are still a lot of them, including me) may cry foul, and if Blizzard doesn't change anything, people will say "worthless game!". They're in a tight spot, in any case.

See Aflac's post. It was near-perfect as far as balance etc. THAT is why it was a fluke, they haven't been able to recreate that in WC3 or it's expansion and they know they won't be able to in a new SC.

I'd play it if they kept the gameplay exactly the same and just upgraded to 3d graphics with some new plotlines. You wouldn't? You'd call it worthless?

Imagine what they could do with the races with modern 3d graphics...ohmy.

They should at least try though! It would be far worse to just leave it at that, the story isnt finished. What are the hybrids all about? Whos duran working for? Did the UED come back? Is it the xel-naga? I think it shouldnt be as thats too obvious, perhaps a 3rd race that they created? That would be interesting. Either way just leaving it half finished is worse than a bad sequal, at least with the bad sequal we know what happens and we can go back st playing sc1 anyway.

Warcraft 2 was responsible, along with the original C&C, for sparking the RTS craze. It had a major impact on the genre and paved the way for Starcraft to follow.

Unfortunately, most of Blizzard's talent is gone now. The teams that worked on the WC1,2, and 3 games are now gone, scattered across several different studios. The team that developed SC is gone, scattered the same way. Same with the Diablo teams, though all they seem to be making are more Diablo clones, something we certainly don't need any more of.

Blizzard's gone so far down hill as a company since WoW was released that its doubtful I'll buy another title from them again. It used to be you could buy a Blizzard game without reading the reviews and know it was going to be a highly polished, fun game. Not any more.

i dont think it's possible to change starcraft without ruining it. even just giving it a graphical makeover would change the feel of the game.
