I have heard this things are fast and run nice and cool. Will there eventually be a desktop solution for these CPUs?

yes, when intel pulls their head out of their ass. their upgrades of the pentium 4 netburst archetecture are done since they cancelled the 4 GHz. the only improvements we will see in single core will be from dothan, but i doubt that will reach the performance of the p4 until they make it dual core

Yes, the P-M "Bananas" core will be used as the replacement for the P4 Prescott space heaters in another year or two.

Someone might come out with a desktop board before then for current P-Ms, but I've only heard of one expensive special-purpose (and non-ATX form factor? I forget) board, I'm not sure it was ever actually manufactured beyond samples.

Aopen makes a desktop board for Pentium Ms. It's supposed to be available in Europe in November, but is already available in Japan.
