I'm quite new to Steam since I only play LoL and some other crappy games, but now I want to play something new and most of the games I want to try is on Steam. However the games I want to try out are quite expensive. So I was wondering when does Steam put out sales? Which holiday seasons? If I remember correctly there was an Easter sale last time? No? What about this Christmas? I want to buy games that are 50% off :D :D

Yes. In fact, they've already started updating the site. Look on your Badges page.....there are already cards slots there (so they're obviously doing some type of Steam Card giveaway as they have in the past).

the Steam Holiday sale is the "biggest" one of the year and usually runs for two weeks into early January.

Badges? What are those and what do they do?

I hope so. I really want the new Mad Max game but I refuse to pay full price for any game.

You won't find Battlefront on Steam. It is an EA/Origin game. Also it can be regularly be purchased for $40-45 on greenmangaming.

Yeah I don't know why I typed Star Wars, I dislike multiplayer games more complicated than Rocket League or CS Go.

What I want is the Mad Max game.

Badges? What are those and what do they do?

It's a Steam-created promotional item. There are virtual trading cards for some games (or, in this case, events (Steam 2015 Holiday Sale). People collect these cards. When you complete the set, Steam gives you a badge. It's just account flair.

For these promotional events, Steam hands out trading cards for free and people collect them to try to earn the badge.

The good news (?) is that there is a market for these cards and you can sell them for real money (we're talking a few cents/card).

It's all just Valve trying to make Steam more "fun". Some people hate it. I don't mind it, it's just marketing.

There was a huge Black Friday/Cyber Monday week sale, but yeah they usually do Christmas/New Year sales too. There's really nothing left on there for now that I'm looking for. I picked up Elder Scrolls Online during the sale a couple weeks ago, glad I got it for cheap because it's a mediocre game.

Don't be silly of course there will be a Steam winter sale. They also have summer sales too. Those are their two biggest times of the year to have sales.
