I was thinking about making a high end machine with either sli 9800gtx or 3x sli 9800 but I don't want it to choke crysis level games on high. what is next for video cards and when (approx of course) will it be released? will they come out with a higher memory 9800 gtx?

No, they won't. Just hold on a month or so until the next generation will see the light of day and then Crysis will be playable on high, even on just one card ( at least I hope so ).

Knowing Nvidia, they'll probably launch a 9800U, which would be identical to the 9800GTX, but with higher clocks and an additional 300 dollars on the price tag.

if you're about to buy new top dollar gfx cards for the pc, I would wait about another 60 days to see what pops up with 4870 & 9900

that is the kind of tip I was looking for jared, thanks! I know waiting will always get you better hardware but I don't really need it now since there aren't many games I'm too interested in. I hate settling too.

make sure you get a top dollar c2d/c2q and tri-sli nvidia board... 790i Ultra if you have the cash.

edit: unless a 4870x2 CrossfireX ends up being the top-dog... which i doubt.

There could be 9800 ultra. It would be hard to believe that Geforce 9800 GT will be the only card using G92b-core.
