Will there be a 7600 GT card (to replace 6600 GT) ?

People have been talking about the G70 chip and a 24 pipe card, the "7800". Is nVidia releasing only a single new card, or will there also be 7200's, 7600's, etc.?

If so, what will the other cards look like and would it even make sense to release them? I mean, with the 6800 GT out, what would a 7600 GT look like--a 16 pipe card? Not sure that would make sense.

Just wondering if nVidia is releasing a single uber-card or an entire line of new cards.

They always release those mainstream cards later - after the top of the line cards. Other than that who knows....they could be 12 or even 16 pipes

You can expect these cards to make into the channel sometime after the top end cards are out.

I think the 6600GT showed up about 4-6 months after the 6800, 6800GT, and 6800 Ultra.
If the 7800s are released next week I bet you will see the 7600 and 7200s sometime around Oct.

Yeah.

There are two important things to think about here:

1. The G70 will likely have enhanced technology that makes it technologically superior to their current chipset. That means, even if they release a 16 pipe card that is parallel to the current 6800 GT with 16 pipes there will be other advantages to the card. Support for more future technology, etc. You get the idea.

2. Exactly as ryanv1 stated. They always flesh out the line of cards as time goes by. It is the technology that is important. They utilize the core abilities of the technology to create a line of cards to satisfy most demographics. The fellow looking for a $100-150 card will find one in the new line and the top-of-the-line only enthusiast will find something for him/her as well. Likely $500 and up.

Finally, you can always derive some 'best guess' answer when looking at past events. If you want to know how the 7000 line is going to roll out just look at how the 6000 line rolled out. The only questions to answer are how much have they learned from their previous experiences and what will they do different. For those questions, only time will tell. Of course, we should know a lot more on the 21st after their rollout.
