I don't foresee it much higher than $200. Remember, PCI-express is still seen as an advanced feature, so since boards are now below $190, I don't think many retailers will try to charge much more for an AGP version. Then again, if they are selling like hotcakes and supply is limited, some retailers might decide to raise prices, so we'll see, but even if that happens, I don't think it will stay that way for long. There is just too much pressure from cards like the 9800 Pro, which is like $180, the 6800, which can go almost down to $250, and the PCIe versions of the 6600GT and X700XT, which are only limited right now by PCIe motherboard availability.

Marked up for the first month. I remember when the first 6600 GTs for PCIe came out, they went for as high as $239 @ newegg and ZZF. Gameve had them for a little cheaper, around 210 - 215. Now prices have dropped, some as low as 189.

Demand is going to be higher for the AGP flavors, as the chips have already been well reviewed, but not available to the majority of users (on the AGP bus). After they become more common, we should see some MSRP and sub-MSRP prices.

6600GT AGP is currently $225 at newegg, not bad for 3 days after relese...

from my point of view, it would make more sense for the AGP to be a little more...it is a native PCi-E card after all, they have to ADD hardware for AGP. so far, the only one is still XFX, so there will probably be another $15-20 drop once BFG, Gaiward, ASUS, etc get their act together.

I'm pretty sure this thread is about the AGP 6600GT. The $180 card is the PCIe version; the AGP version is $229 with shipping. Please read threads before responding to them.

I expect them to drop from 225 to their 200 mark quickly. Supply should not be a problem. As stated in the anandtech article, the ram chips aren't as fast as their pci-e counterparts. The core is also easier to implement because unlike the 6800 core, this one is not the very top of the performance ladder. Therefore, supply should be fine. The prices should even out by xmas. Then again, its "only" $25 which isnt too huge of a deal esp because they are still a decent card even if they were to rise to $250 avg retail.

Has NVIDIA published a higher MSRP for the AGP? If not, it is $200 like the PCIe (afterall the additional cost for the manufacturer is no more than $5) -which means the price can be expected to correct quickly to $180ish with bare cards being a bit less. The performance of both of these chips varies a lot, it seems. 256MB vs 128 does make a significant difference in some cases. Some manufacturers will offer X700 XT 256MB models (as opposed to reference choices of either 256MB Pro vs 128MB XT). It seems with either chip the real question is how high they will o'erclock to overcome their 128-bit bus limitations, particularly vs o'ced 9800's. NVIDIA's offering does suffer their usual higher losses with AA/AF. I would like to see more useful benchmarks at 1280 with 4xAA / 8AF from pop games, especially BF, IL-2, RvS, etc. rather than the ever present slew of sythetic benchmarks and Farcry/Doom 3/Half-Life 2.
