Seems you can't get hold of XP's any longer. Will the sempron work in motherboards designed for use with the XP? they appear to be similar in most ways...

cheers.

There are 2 types of semprons. Socket 754 and socket 462 (which are basiclly XPs). The Socket 462 semprons should work ok on a mobo designed for the Athlon XP, but whichever mobo you have in mind, it'd be good to check it for compatibility from the manufacturers website. Some mobos may need a bios flash or somethin.

They will work whenever the mobo supports 333MHz DDR FSB. The old mobos will recognize it as an athlon XP. If you want to see semprom at the startup or in in windows a bios update is required.

Get a mobile XP. $77 and guarnteed 3200 speeds. I assume you have a SKT A board you wish to keep... otherwise there is no reason to be buying anything skt A right now with faster and cheaper 754 semps out there.

I have two Sempron 2400+ CPUs. One is on an Asus A7N8X and the other is on a Chaintech KT-600. Both overclock to 2.2ghz with stock vCore. They retail for $65

I'm building a budget PC for a buddy, you think there's a cheaper option offering similar performance?

cheers for your help so far, guys.
