Will the Playstation Multitap work with the PS2?

I would've thought the answer would easily be yes, but while looking on the back of game boxes, it specifically says "Multitap (for PS2)", much like it does for the memory card, as opposed to just saying "Multitap" compatible.

So is this pretty much Sony just trying to squeeze an extra $25 or so from us, or is there logically a reason why it wouldn't work? Hmm... come to think about it, I have yet to try my old PS1 controllers with PS2, figuring these would obviously work. Please tell me this assumption at least is correct.

PS1 controllers work on PS2, so do the PS1 memory cards...

the reason only the PS2 multitap works on the PS2 is cause the PS2 controllers have added functionaloty (full 8-bit analog buttons and directive rumble effects).. the PS1 multitap did not support this

Well the ps1 controllers didn't support it either but they still work.

yes.. but thats because they plug into the ps2 controller port which supports both types... the ps1 multitap ports do not support both types

PSX memory cards can work in the PS2 console, but only for PSX games.

PS2 games on the PS2 console can only work with PS2 memory cards, not PSX memory cards.
